The lake after which the town was named was created in 1904 with the construction of a dam on the Catawba River. The 12,445-acre Lake Wylie Waterfront sprawls into North and South Carolina and is lined with several communities. These include Fort Mill, South Carolina, Gastonia, North Carolina, Belmont, North Carolina, and Charlotte, North Carolina
Charlotte is one of the fastest growing commercial areas in the country. It offers a range of employment options for Lake Wylie Waterfront residents in the following economic sectors: manufacturing, retail trade, finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing and professional services. For college students, the Central Piedmont Community College and University of North Carolina are also located within Charlotte.
For those days when the beautiful surroundings of Lake Wylie Waterfront don’t offer enough activity, the nearby local attractions offer great day trip opportunities. Two of the more popular options are the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden and Paramount’s Carowinds theme park. The 10-acre botanical garden site is a great place to escape and unwind among the beautiful horticultural displays. Alternatively, the Carowinds theme park offers an entirely different experience. Located at the border of North and South Carolina, the park offers water rides, thrill rides, kids’ rides and shows and attractions year-round.
